Report: LSU backup QB Stephen Rivers will transfer
Posted by Chris Huston on February 19, 2014, 10:42 PM EST

The father of LSU backup quarterback Stephen Rivers told the Baton Rouge Advocate on Wednesday that his son has decided to transfer from the Tigers’ program.

The rising junior was slated to compete for the starting quarterback spot this spring, but he appears to be the odd man out of a five-man competition that will reportedly place a heavy focus on mobility and the read option. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Rivers is a traditional drop-back passer.

LSU has given Rivers the clearance to transfer anywhere he likes. He’ll be eligible to compete right away since he’ll graduate in May.

When I interviewed Phillip Rivers at the 2012 Pro Bowl Week he told me, "If it wasn't for Norm Chow, I wouldn't be the Quarterback I am today."

I wouldn't be surprised if they are not talking. I think Norm still has a couple of schoolies left.

Wittek and now Phillip Rivers little (Big) Brother Stephen Rivers interested in playing for Hawaii? Come on? Seriously! Thats 2 big name QB's is the same year, after a not so great 2013 season? Norm may not be winning games yet but he does command respect on the College Football World. Mack lacked that!

True but Mack won more. I would rather have wins than big named QBs with one win seasons.

I agree that it is all about wins.

But big name QBs is what produces wins. They are only considering Hawaii because of Norm and strong recommendations from coaches who know Norm and other QBs that have played for Norm. I'll be more then happy to have either or both of them.

When you rebuild a team from ground up some times the first 3 years you say WTH! Then after that the pay off seasons come. It has been 2 years so far. One more year and the wins start coming in abundance. Ya never know. Three may be Norms magic number.

Ready or not. Season three is coming.

I agree with you. They did improve last year. We moved and scored. Games were closer. With a better D we could have won 2-3 more games. We should see more wins this year 3-5. 6 if we are lucky.

The 4th year is the payoff year if we can keep people healthy.

i agree too, the win/loss record really didn't show the teams improvement from the year before......the 2012 teams production was more like a 1 win team then last years team.......and i like the recruiting thats being done, regardless of record......

You would think that someone like SBNation would be able to afford an editor before copy gets posted on a website?

"... about fishing his final two years of eligibility ..."

Unless Stephen Rivers intends on passing the time fishing, instead of throwing footballs here?
